Job Description Summary

The Auburn University (www.auburn.edu) College of Agriculture’s Department of Poultry Science is seeking candidates for TWO Post-Doctoral Fellow in the area of food safety microbiology. Candidates will be tracking pathogens in end-to-end food supply chain using next generational rapid pathogen detection sensors and data-based decision support system. These non-tenure track faculty positions are full-time, twelve-month, research appointments, renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. The positions are eligible for benefits, including health insurance.
Responsibilities: The successful candidates will be responsible for developing an independent research program on post-harvest poultry food safety to broadly address the following objective:
    • Validation of novel pathogen detection technologies, molecular microbiology, microbiological interventions and technologies in food and poultry processing, using mathematical modeling, predictions and data analytics.

 

In addition, the successful candidates will mentor graduate and undergraduate students, engage in scholarship that results in peer-reviewed publications, and secure extramural funding to support their research program from sources such as USDA-NIFANSF, and other competitive programs, as well as from relevant industries in Alabama and across the country. Positions are available for a minimum period of 2 years, subject to renewal based on funding. Post-Doctoral Fellows are non-tenure track positions.
The starting salary for this position is $60,000.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in the area of Food Science, Meat Science, Poultry Science, Animal Science, Biology or a related field with significant emphasis on microbiology at time of employment. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. The candidate selected for the positions must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working with food pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter, molecular microbiology, predictive microbiology, mathematical modeling, and data analytics is desirable.
