Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. A reasonable full time salary estimate for this position is $64,329-$97,469.

Percent time: variable depending on teaching course load

Position description

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified, temporary, non-tenure track lecturers to teach a range of physics courses. Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available.

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach a range of lecture and laboratory courses in Physics. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include:

  • Holding office hours;
  • Assigning grades;
  • Advising and communicating with students;
  • Preparing course materials, including syllabi, homework assignments, and exams;
  • Using a learning management system (e.g. bCourses) and/or maintaining a course website; and,
  • Managing and mentoring graders and/or graduate student instructors.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A Master's degree (or equivalent international degree) or be enrolled in a Master's degree program (or equivalent international degree-granting program) at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
A Master's degree (or equivalent international degree) by the start of the appointment.

For applicants who are not US citizens or permanent residents, valid US work authorization is required for the duration of employment. Applicants should not expect the department to sponsor a work visa on their behalf.

Preferred qualifications
A Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), and/or prior college-level teaching experience.
