Postdoc Position – Organic and polymer synthetic chemist
Post-doctoral scholar positions are available in the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) – Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering.
The project aims to design, synthesize, and characterize multi-functional biomedical adhesives through the fundamental understanding of structure-property relationships in bottlebrush polymers. The most important part of the project is organic synthesis of new monomers and following polymerization to prepare sophisticated and well-defined polymers.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, polymer science or a related field, and demonstrated experience in organic and/or polymer chemistry (monomer synthesis and polymerization). The candidate must be able to conduct multi-step organic synthesis with strong organic chemistry background. Familiarity with polymer physics, polymer characterization (SEC, NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis, tensile testing, rheology, etc.) and organometallic chemistry is desirable but not an essential requirement. Independence, creativity, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the joint engineering school for FAMU and FSU. The unique collaboration between two universities provides great benefits from both universities. The college is a leading academic institution with excellent records of achievement in research and public service. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering has excellent research facilities for polymers/materials/chemistry research.
The Chung’s research lab is located in the main campus of FSU. Also, the Chung’s group provides the maximum support to facilitate postdoc’s research in terms of publication and knowledge gaining. The Chung’s group research has a highly interdisciplinary nature as a unique polymer synthesis group in engineering department. The interdisciplinary experience is significantly beneficial to individual researchers because they will have extended options to choose a future research project and to choose career path as a specialist in multiple areas.
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is in Tallahassee that is a capital city of Florida State. Tallahassee has beautiful nature, multicultural environment, and living expenses is fairly cheap compare to many other cities in US. The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable based on reasonable progress. Further inquiries and application materials (full CV, a list of publications, and a list of references) should be sent electronically to Professor Hoyong Chung, hchung_at_eng.famu.fsu.edu (or firstname.lastname@example.org).
