Professor Yi Xiao of the Department of Chemistry at North Carolina State University invites applications to fill full-time postdoctoral fellow positions starting November 2022. Employment time can be 2 – 3 years based on performance. The Xiao lab performs research on the isolation and characterization of nucleic acid-based recognition elements – aptamers – and their application in biosensors as well as therapeutic agents. These efforts span multiple fields including bioanalytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, materials science, and bioinformatics.
Current projects in the Xiao lab include the isolation of aptamers for small molecule, protein, and cell targets; establishment of innovative in vitro aptamer selection methodologies; the advancement of optical and electrochemical biosensors; biophysical methods for aptamer characterization (fluorescence, ITC, MST, NMR, X-ray spectroscopy); development of nanomaterial-incorporated paper-based devices for on-site or point-of-care sensing; synthesis of nanomaterial and organic probes for optical biosensing.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in aptamer isolation (SELEX), cell culture and/or sensor development. Candidates should have a chemistry, biochemistry, or other related Ph.D. degree. Successful candidates will be expected to work independently and have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
