The Tufts Department of Biology has diverse research interests and is engaged in cutting-edge biological research in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, neurobiology, physiology, plant ecology, animal behavior, and conservation biology. The Department of Biology maintains an active research and teaching program on the Medford campus and in various field locales, and trains and advises graduate and undergraduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows.
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, conduct a variety of experiments following established procedures and protocols, which may include insect egg injections, maintaining transgenic insect colonies, PCR assays, expression screening and imaging / microscopy. The research technician will also have lab coordination duties, including ordering, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and managing data and reagent storage systems. The topic of investigation is to develop optogenetic tools for use in brain circuit analysis in the caterpillar Manduca sexta.
