JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Mass Academy of Math and Science seeks a Teacher in STEM Research. Courses to be taught include STEM I (Research), Science and Technical Writing (STW), and STEM II (Assistive Technology). The teacher will coordinate our research programs in collaboration with other faculty, and work with the Humanities teacher in improving the expository, analytical, and persuasive writing skills of students.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Principal Duties and Responsibility: The STEM I Research course, which contains elements of the AP Research Course, allows students to explore a STEM area of individual interest. Students design, plan, and implement an in-depth investigation to address a research question or goal. The course culminates in presentations at internal and external STEM fairs. The STW course consists of reading and writing research papers, short essays on topics in science and nature, and technical reports. The STEM II course allows teams of students to work with clients in the community and engineer solutions to help the clients manage challenges.
Candidates should have a strong background in science, research, and research papers. Candidates should also be skilled writers with the ability to assess student writing. The position will involve daily interaction with other faculty, as well as direct student instruction in individual and small group settings. The position provides the opportunity to experience teaching in a fast-paced advanced secondary school setting, with particular emphasis on research.
Additional responsibilities include offering extra-curricular courses in various interest areas, advising students with college essays and resumes, working with community partners, and seeking opportunities to showcase student work.
Work and/or teaching experience in scientific research, technical writing and/or other related fields is preferred. Strong background in Biology and Chemistry preferred. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or beyond preferred. Experience working with high school students preferred, and ability to meet the licensure requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts/DESE required. Ability to work in a collaborative environment required.
