About the role - Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga

We have an opportunity for a dedicated and motivated educator to teach computer science in the tropical island of Hainan, as part of an agreement where the University of Waikato is offering its Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the campus of the University of Hainan in China.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who will bring professional and academic experience to be part of a team dedicated to excellence in teaching. You will have the skills and experience to teach first- and second-year Computer Science students programming, software architecture, computer hardware, microprocessors, operating systems, and computer networks.

The salary range for the position will be in the range of CNY320,000 to CNY455,000 per year, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. This role is based in Hainan, China.

Who are you? - Ko wai koe?

If is preferred if you have a PhD qualification in Computer Science and demonstrated experience teaching to large and small groups of students. This role will require the ability to each core computer science topics at first and second-year level, specifically, programming, software architecture, computer hardware, microprocessors, operating systems, and computer networks.

Ideally, you will have experience living and working in Asia, and the ability to work with students for whom English is not their first language. Teaching will be conducted in the English language.

Who are we? - Ko wai mātou?

The University of Waikato has an agreement with Hainan University (HNU), a key university in the eponymous island province, to deliver a joint programme yielding a University of Waikato Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree. At the completion of the programme, students will also receive a bachelor's degree from HNU.

A competitive benefits package is on offer for the appointee (and partner and dependent children where relevant) which includes either on-campus accommodation or a contribution towards off-campus rented accommodation, contributions towards the relocation and international school and pre-school tuition fees, payment for a work visa, medical insurance costs and one return economy airfare per annum to return to home country, if border restrictions allow.

The successful applicant will be an international expert and employment compliant with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment as a foreign expert with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
