Associate Professor of Biosciences and Director of Microscopy Core Facility

The Pacific Biosciences Research Center (PBRC), an Organized Research Unit at the University of Hawaii at Manoa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in PBRC. We seek applicants whose research focuses on fundamental questions in the life sciences. A component of this position will be the management of an existing, high-quality Microscopy Core Facility, which is housed in our new Life Sciences Building. The successful candidate will join a faculty with diverse research interests spanning cellular and molecular biology, developmental biology, neurobiology, host-microbe interactions, evolutionary biology, ecology and environmental microbiomes, with an emphasis on the terrestrial and marine biota of Hawaii and the Pacific. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology or a related field, a record of outstanding research productivity, evidenced by publications in major international journals and extramural federal funding, and have a minimum of two years university experience at the rank of associate professor or equivalent. Experience in the research applications of electron and advanced light microscopy is also expected. Teaching responsibilities will include a minimum of one course per year. Desirable qualifications include an interest in developing a collaborative research program that would take advantage of the department’s focus on the Hawaiian biota, the potential for synergy with researchers in the Integrative Center for Environmental Microbiomes and Human Health (ICEMHH) and the Center for Microbiome Analysis through Island Knowledge and Investigation (C-MAIKI) within PBRC, and the capacity to secure funding for major instrumentation.
