Job Description Summary

The Department of Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor and Extension Specialist. This faculty position will be a twelve-month, tenure-track position with a 75% extension and 25% research appointment. Applications received by December 31, 2023 will receive optimal consideration; however, the position will remain open until filled.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized extension and research program in poultry health providing state and regional leadership in this area. For this, he/she will interact and collaborate with industry personnel, governmental agencies, extension specialists, and research-oriented faculty in the Department of Pathobiology, the Department of Poultry Science, the Alabama Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory System, the National Poultry Technology Center, and related disciplines.

Extramural funding to support his/her extension and research programs will be secured from sources such as USDA and other related federal sponsors, and from industry sources and commodity boards in Alabama and across the country. Departmental, college, and university committee service as well as participation in professional organizations will be expected.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned DVMVMD or equivalent from an accredited institution and documented experience of working with commercial poultry for at least two years at the time of employment.

The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

 

Desired Qualifications

- Board certification by the American College of Poultry Veterinarians or eligibility to sit the exam strongly desired.

- Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative extension and research efforts (PhD) in poultry health resulting in extramural grants, peer-reviewed research and extension publications, popular press articles, and oral presentations at scientific meetings and extension events

- Experience with broilers and/or broiler breeders
