Lecturer in Information Technology

Location: Arizona State University – Polytechnic Campus

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and The Polytechnic School (TPS) seeks dynamic, creative, and talented individual to fill a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in the Information Technology (IT) program. This is a non-tenure track appointment with a fixed term academic year contract at The Polytechnic School, located on the Polytechnic Campus, and beginning in fall 2021 semester.

The IT program is housed on the Polytechnic Campus and resides in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. The IT program curriculum is unique in using a professional practice model, with integrated, active learning strategies and incorporating increasing levels of difficulty. The program offers a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Information Technology.

The new IT faculty members will be expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching (both online and face-to-face) in one or more of the following IT disciplines:

  • Cyber Security and Network Forensics: information security and privacy, digital networking and network security, security management, cybersecurity laws, cybersecurity operations, network defense and countermeasures, penetration testing, reverse engineering, database security and auditing, malware analysis and risk management
  • Programming in various languages including Go, Python, Java, Linux and shell scripting
  • Cloud Configuration with knowledge of workflow schedulers and data loading tools such as Oozie, Flume, Sqoop and Hive
  • Network systems administration and architecture for Windows: Active Directory, PowerShell programming, virtualization and domain configuration on virtual environments
  • Networking including wireless, Internet of Things (IoT) and network systems architecture
  • Databases and Information systems, including SQL, big data and in-depth knowledge about Hadoop and Spark architectures, HDFS, YARN, experience in writing Pig Latin scripts and HiveQL, knowledge of MapReduce, HBase, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Couch-base

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

· Earned Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Science Education, or a closely related field

· Academic background commensurate with teaching courses in one or more of the subject areas listed above

Desired Qualifications:

· PhD in a related area

· Relevant academic experience; including teaching one or more of the IT relevant subject areas. Teaching experience to include both on campus and on-line interactions that incorporate lecture and instructional-based labs and activities integrated into course material. Working with students in developing a Capstone development project that demonstrates acquired knowledge during his/her course of instruction. Course development: experience in developing new courses or modifying courses for on-line delivery; including creating relevant labs and activities that can be completed by both on campus and on-line students

· Relevant industry experience: Background in working in industry in one of the related IT disciplines
