Project: Next-generation colloidal quantum dot solids and devices

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is a graduate university with a diverse community on the shores of the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia. Prof. Baran's research group OMEGALAB ( focuses on engineering smart materials for energy harvesting devices such as solar cells and thermoelectrics. The lab is located in a 3000 m2 lab space area in KAUST Solar Center.

University of Toronto (U of T) is a globally top-ranked research university in Canada. Prof. Sargent's group ( unites chemistry, physics, and engineering within eight experimental laboratories at U of T. Our mission is to advance the physics and chemistry of optoelectronic materials and devices, and to apply this knowledge to address key challenges in sustainable energy.

We are seeking an extraordinary candidate for a joint postdoctoral fellowship between KAUST and U of T. The successful candidate will have a primary appointment and reside principally at KAUST. The candidate will be co-advised by Prof. Baran and Prof. Sargent and will have the opportunity to spend extended periods of time at U of T and will be appointed as visiting researcher at U of T.

Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering and have proven expertise in materials processing, materials science and device physics; experience with device fabrication and characterization ideally in thermoelectrics or transistors using at least one of {colloidal quantum dots, perovskites, organics}; have an excellent publication record and excellent oral and written communications skills in English.

The project - funded through a competitive research grant - is aimed at building solution-processed next- generation CQD thermoelectric devices that, through fundamental advances in the science of quantum dot and quantum-dot-in-perovskite solids, achieve new global performance records in figures of merit and stability, and enable high-power-output nanogenerators.

The candidate will be a team player dedicated to attaining first-authored publications in high-impact journals and cultivating skills as a colleague and also as a mentor, devoting a portion of their time to mentoring graduate students in the group and developing new research directions. The position is ideal for a highly motivated, creative researcher in view of joint infrastructure and possibility to conduct experiments and explore collaborations within KAUST and U of T.
