General Summary of Position:
The Mathematical Sciences Department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a one-year, full-time, non-renewable postdoctoral position. The candidate will join the Variational Analysis and Optimization research group at the department. Expertise in Convex Analysis, its generalizations and applications are essential. The position is for 12 months, to begin in Fall 2019. Responsibilities will consist primarily of conducting high quality research.
The principal role of the Postdoctoral Research Associate is to work on projects alongside the Supervisor. A critical feature of the role of the position will also be to a) develop and write research papers, proposals and form collaborations to support future research b) perform major research functions on existing joint and individual research.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at UMass Lowell boasts 30 full-time faculty. A bachelor’s degree program is offered through both the day and evening programs. Master’s degree programs in Applied & Computational Mathematics, Probability & Statistics, Mathematics for Teachers, and Industrial Mathematics (PSM) are offered through the department. A Doctor of Science in Computational Mathematics is offered in conjunction with the Computer Science Department.
UMass Lowell is located about 25 miles northwest of Boston in the high-tech corridor of Massachusetts.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
An earned PhD in Mathematics by the time of the appointment
Proved record of scientific publications in Variational Analysis and Optimization
Ability to work as a team player
Strong technical writing and communication skills
Strong presentation skills
The department is dynamic, diverse and sometimes a high pressure environment. The position of Postdoctoral Research Associate will involve working under pressure to meet deadlines.
