Superhydrophobic surfaces are highly liquid repellent and are intriguing from both the fundamental scientific point of view and for applied technologies such as self-cleaning, anti-biofouling, anti-fogging, and anti-icing.

The Soft Matter and Wetting group (Prof. Robin Ras, is hiring a doctoral student in the field of coating fabrication, wetting characterization and application development at Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Conduct research on superhydrophobic surfaces, synthesis via cleanroom microfabrication and chemical functionalization. This will be performed alongside in-depth wetting characterization with high-speed optical imaging and/or microscopic techniques.

Focus on exploring the use of these surfaces under different environments (temperature, pressure, medium etc.)

Publish research outcomes in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

Work in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment with chemists, physicists, and engineers.
