Primary Purpose of Position
The selected candidate is expected to conduct research, mentor, and supervise graduate students, participate in proposal and manuscript writing, and coordinate student training and collaborations among North Carolina A&T State University and UNC Chapel Hill. Specific tasks include: (1) Conduct controlled laboratory measurements of optical properties of biomass burning (BB)-derived aerosols as a function of photochemical aging, fuel type, burning conditions and meteorological variables using the NCAT smog chamber and combustion facility; (2) Aerosol physicochemical property measurements (e.g., particle morphology and optical properties); (3) Conduct systematic studies that examine the BB-derived aerosol chemical composition and cloud water chemistry potential of water-soluble organic gas emissions; and (4) Conduct UPLC/DAD-ESI-HR-QTOFMS and GC/MS analyses in order to chemically characterize organic and brown carbon (BrC) aerosol constituents at the molecular level from fresh and aged BB emissions derived from African biomass.

The Department of Physics is an active department with twelve full time faculty who are heavily engaged in research. Current research areas include experimental nuclear physics, experimental and theoretical chemical physics, experimental biological and soft matter physics, computational physics, atmospheric sciences and meteorology, general relativity, and condensed matter physics. The department of Physics offers a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science and Meteorology, a Master of Science in Physics, and a concentration in Applied Physics under the College PhD Program in Applied Science and Technology.
