About the position
The Department of Physics at Brock University invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Experimental Materials Physics. Applications from all areas of experimental Condensed Matter Physics are welcome, and preference will be given to candidates with research interests reinforcing the existing strengths of the Physics Department in the field of Quantum Materials and Materials Physics.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program, with a focus on the characterization of the kinds of advanced materials that impact areas such as sustainable energy, nanotechnology, information technology, or superconductors.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are especially looking to fill instructional needs for classes in the experimental characterization of materials at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels.
The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing research and development of the department, including application for external research funding, supervision of graduate students, and fulfil service commitments to the Departments of Physics and the University.
Qualifications
Consideration will be given to candidates who hold a PhD in Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field. The successful individual should have a proven track record of research excellence.

About the Department
The faculty of the Physics Department are engaged in experimental and theoretical research and dedicated to high-quality teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate level (the Department offers B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees). The Department’s shared research infrastructure includes such state-of-the-art equipment as X-Ray diffractometer, cryo-Raman spectrometer, SEM, PPMS, squid magnetometer and others. Brock is also a member of the Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network, the largest high-performance computing (HPC) consortium in Canada.
Our small-size classes, hands-on laboratories, and individual student undergraduate research projects provide our graduates with excellent problem-solving skills. We collaborate with physicists all over the world and are involved in the community at large.
