Position Purpose
A Level B research-only academic is expected to carry out independent and/or team research within the field in which they are appointed and to carry out activities to develop their research expertise relevant to the particular field of research.
This position is based at the Main Campus, Bandar Sunway.
Reporting line: The position reports to the Platform Director (Dr Syafiq Asnawi)
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the development and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines to support proteomics, metabolomics, and multi-omics data generated within the MUMPMP.
2. Drive the design, development, and deployment of an intellectual property (IP) – interactive analytics platform for biomarker discovery and translational research applications.
3. Contribute to high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, software tools and reports.
4. Secure grant applications, collaborative project proposals, and industry engagement activities related to bioinformatics and computational biology
5. Contribute to platform operations and cross-functional research initiatives in line with the MUMPMP’s and JCSMHS strategic goals.
Key Selection Criteria
1. A doctoral qualification (PhD) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Systems Biology, or a closely related discipline.
2. Familiarity with mass spectrometry–based proteomics and metabolomics workflows (e.g., LC-MS/MS, data dependent/independent acquisition, quantitative/qualitative proteomics).
3. Experience in analysing mass spectrometry data using relevant bioinformatics tools, pipelines, or statistical approaches (e.g., PEAKS, MaxQuant, Skyline, MetaboAnalyst, or equivalent).
4. Demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics methods, including data integration, analysis, and interpretation of proteomics, metabolomics, and/or multi-omics datasets.
5. Proficiency in relevant programming and scripting languages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, or\ equivalent) and experience with bioinformatics software/tools.
6. Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners, including academia, industry, and healthcare sectors.
7. Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and capacity to independently drive research and development projects
8. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex computational concepts to non-specialist researchers and clinicians.
9. Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high-level work using software such as Microsoft Office applications and specified University software programs, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages as appropriate.
