JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Dr. Yousefi's research group at WPI (https://www.wpi.edu/people/faculty/ayousefi) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to develop advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to discover reliable markers of suicidal thinking and suicidal intent using brain and behavioral signals. This will be a four-year discovery effort, and if successful, the technology would form the basis of a new approach to mental health assessment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a project leadership role funded by a four-year grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers from engineering, psychology, neuroscience, and computer science backgrounds. The team is spread across three time zones and from different institutions and shares responsibility for deliverables on tight timelines.

The position is with the Department of Computer Science and Neuroscience Program at WPI, Worcester, MA. The Department of Computer Science is the largest department at WPI with more than 35 tenured faculties.

This is a 12-month, fixed-term position with the possibility of additional years conditional upon performance and funding availability. Postdoctoral scholars receive comprehensive benefits packaging including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, among many other benefits.

Candidates should have the following qualifications:
(1) Ph.D. from a top university with demonstrated research activity in statistical and Machine learning algorithm development
(2) Prior research experience in neuroscience data analysis and computational neuroscience is highly preferred
(3) Excellent communication skills can be demonstrated through their research publications and presentations.
(4) Experience with Python and cloud-based programming

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Perform large-scale data analysis and visualization on EEG, fMRI, ECOG, and behavioral data
  • Design and implement ML and statistical algorithms for the neural and behavioral data analysis
  • Mentor and train junior team members
  • Create technical reports, presentations, and documentation associated with the research and meetings.
  • Publish research articles in peer-reviewed conferences and journals and present at conferences
