Nature and Scope:
Bryant Zhuhai invites applications for a mixed faculty/administrative position in Computer Information Systems. On the faculty side, Bryant University-BITZH seeks a faculty member (open rank) to introductory computer information systems, the core computer information course in Bryant’s AACSB-accredited business program. On the administrative side, this position is responsible for coordinating with the Bryant University main campus IT team to ensure the smooth operation of Bryant University-BITZH information systems including the faculty and student email system, the faculty and student portal, CampusNexus, and Blackboard. This is a three-year (renewable) contract appointment beginning in fall 2020 that reports to the Dean of Academics, Bryant Zhuhai. The academic year in Zhuhai runs from early September to July and includes a winter break during Spring Festival (Chinese New Year).
Bryant University-BITZH is a 4-year English immersion, academic program developed in partnership between Bryant University in Smithfield, RI and the Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai (BITZH). In addition to the traditional 4-year academic program, Bryant University-BITZH also supports a 2+2 and 3+2 academic model for students interested in finishing their education at Bryant University or other US institutions of higher learning.
Bryant University-BITZH is in the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province in southern China. Guangdong Province is a very important area for China’s economy, providing 10 percent of China’s total GDP and the location for many of China’s innovative manufacturing operations. A recently completed 32-mile-long bridge connecting Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macau will increase the movement of people and commerce between Hong Kong and Macau and mainland China.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. from an English language higher education institution (AACSB Accredited institutions preferred). Master’s candidates are also encouraged to apply. Individuals with a degree in CIS, IS, MIS, CS or related fields, particularly those with an international focus, are of strong interest. Individuals with administrative experience, particularly in computer information systems are also highly desirable. Fluency in English and the ability to teach in English are essential. This position includes teaching undergraduate introductory computer information systems, engaging in relevant research and professional development activities, and contributing to student growth and development through active involvement in student related activities and other institutional service. This position is also responsible for coordinating with the Bryant University main campus IT team to ensure the smooth operation of Bryant University-BITZH information systems.
While the normal teaching load for research productive faculty member is six classes per year, this position will have three course releases per year to provide administrative support for the Bryant Zhuhai’s information technology needs and serve as liaison between Bryant Zhuhai and Bryant University main campus IT team.
Salary is competitive with Zhuhai educational market conditions. Benefits include travel allowance, housing, health care benefits, and relocation allowance (if applicable).
