The Nanomagnetism and Spintronics group at the Department of Applied Physics of Aalto University in Finland is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher
to work on unconventional spin-wave computing. The project, which is funded by the Academy of Finland (2023 - 2027), studies the physics of hybrid magnonic elements
consisting of low-loss YIG films and ferromagnetic nanostructures such as resonators, waveguides, (de)multiplexers, directional couplers, and concave/convex lenses. The most suitable hybrid structures will be integrated into magnonic nanocircuits. We aim at the demonstration of energy-efficient logic gates
based on interferometry and the realization of magnonic neural networks
for the classification, autoencoding, and recognition of environmental information.
Your experience and ambitions
We are looking for a bright and motivated postdoc with an excellent record in the field of the position. Good command of English (both verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to disseminate scientific results are mandatory requirements for the position. Finnish language is not required. Applicants must be motivated to conduct research at the highest international level with the aim at publishing high-impact articles. To be eligible, a postdoctoral researcher must hold a PhD degree in a suitable field.

The duration of the position is initially two years
. The annual workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is currently 1612 hours. Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The postdoc salary ranges from 3900 € to 4300 € per month
, depending on previous experience. The contract includes occupational healthcare.
You will join the Nanomagnetism and Spintronics group (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-applied-physics/nanomagnetism-and-spintronics-nanospin
) at Aalto University. We conduct research on nanoscale phenomena and materials for future memory and unconventional computing technologies. Current research projects focus on low-loss hybrid magnonics, the coupling of magnons to phonons, photons, and plasmons, reconfigurable magnonic neural networks, control of magnetism by voltage, and skyrmionics. For smart in-sensor computing, we are developing multisensory interconnected networks that can process multimodal information using photomemristor networks with build-in memory. Our laboratory is equipped with advanced instrumentation for thin-film growth and advanced magnetic, electronic, and magneto-optical characterization. For the advertised position, the following techniques are most relevant: Magnetron sputtering system, pulsed laser deposition system for high-quality YIG film growth, VNA-FMR, broadband spin wave spectrometry, super-Nyquist sampling magneto-optic Kerr effect microscopy for spin-wave imaging, and various techniques for magnetic and structural characterization. You will also have full access to the OtaNano research infrastructure for nano- and microtechnologies (http://otanano.aalto.fi/en/
), comprising state-of-the-art equipment for nanofabrication and microscopy.
