Department Summary
The Chemistry Department is known as a leader in research at UNT. Our faculty and graduate students successfully compete for research funds from both public and private sources (see below), publish their groundbreaking research in top scientific journals, and are frequently highlighted and interviewed in the media.

Although our research groups are rooted in the traditional subdisciplines of analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, much of our current research is interdisciplinary and spans the boundaries of two or more of these areas. For example, we have strong faculty groups working at the frontiers of computational chemistry, materials chemistry, and catalysis. We are building a new strength in chemical biology, which uses the tools of chemistry to study biological systems. Finally, we are revitalizing our program in chemistry education research.

Recent sponsors of UNT Chemistry Research include:

National Science Foundation
National Institutes of Health
U.S. Department of Energy
U.S. Department of Justice
The Robert A. Welch Foundation
American Chemical Society – Petroleum Research Fund
The W. M. Keck Foundation
Lacore Labs
Air Liquide
Microsoft
And many other federal and private sources

The research interests of the chemistry faculty span a diverse range of traditional and interdisciplinary areas of chemistry, including analytical, chemical biology, catalysis, chemistry education, computational, forensic science, inorganic, materials, organic and physical.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
