The Theoretical Attosecond Spectroscopy group (TAS) at the Department of Physics and CREOL, University of Central Florida, invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research position on computational atomic and molecular physics, with start date preferably before December 2019, and in any case no later than January 2020.
The TAS group, established in March 2016 by Dr. Luca Argenti, is interested in the description of time-resolved correlated-electron dynamics in atoms and small molecules. Dr. Argenti’s group, which currently comprises two PhD and one postdoctoral associate, conducts its research in close collaboration with leading theoretical and experimental groups around the world active in the field of photoelectron spectroscopies. These include the two local experimental attosecond-science groups, led by Prof. Zenghu Chang and Prof. Michael Chini. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Argenti, on the main campus of the University of Central Florida, to develop new ab initio codes for molecular photoionization.
The University of Central Florida is rapidly establishing itself as a major center for the theoretical and experimental study of ultrafast electron dynamics in atoms, molecules and solids, and a point of reference on the East coast of the United States for the international attosecond community. Dr. Argenti and Dr. Chini will serve as local chairs of ATTO 2021, the next edition of the most prominent international conference of attosecond science, which will be held in Orlando. The successful applicant, therefore, will have a unique opportunity to showcase her/his achievements. Orlando will host the annual conference of the Division of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics (DAMOP) of the American Physical Society in 2022.

The successful candidate is expected to: 1) play a primary role in the development of new computational methods for the description of the electronic continuum of polyelectronic atoms and molecules, as part of the research effort of the group; 2) carry out original research in attosecond dynamics in collaboration with the other members of the group; 3) communicate the results of his/her research in scientific publications and at conferences; 4) contribute to the writing of research proposals in support of the activities of the group. The initial appointment will be for one year with extension to two years, contingent on performance. Longer extensions will be contingent on both performance and funding. The successful candidate may start as soon as October 1st 2019 and no later than January 31st 2020. The annual salary for this position is near $50,000, plus benefits.
The candidate must have: 1) a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, theoretical chemistry, or related fields; 2) a track record of original contributions to the scientific literature in the field of theoretical AMO physics; 3) a primary interest in pursuing a career in research, as well as an academic profile that justifies this ambition; 4) extensive experience in programming; 5) fluency in written and spoken English; 6) the ability and will to take service at UCF in Orlando, FL, before January 31st 2020.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: photoionization and strong-field physics; design and development of ab initio electronic-structure codes; software development; programming languages for scientific applications, such as Fortran 2003/2008 and C/C++.
