The Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, Denmark (www.phys.au.dk) invites applications for a permanent associate or full professor position in theoretical quantum physics.

The Department seeks to complement and/or strengthen its existing activities in quantum optics and cold atomic physics with a strong theoretical research program and teaching in complex quantum systems and quantum technologies.

The position is open from July 1 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Your profile
The successful candidate will establish a research activity, which may include many-body physics and quantum gases, nanophotonics and integrated photonics, optomechanics, physics at surfaces and interfaces, superconducting quantum devices or semiconductor quantum optics, and range from the development of applications to foundational investigations in quantum and statistical physics. We are particularly looking for applicants who will strengthen and/or supplement and interact with the quantum science and condensed matter research groups at Aarhus University and who will contribute to the development of the research field within the Department.

Applicants must have a strong record of original scientific research at international level and they are invited to document examples of collaborative research and external funding. Applicants must hold a PhD in physics and be able to teach physics at all levels of the University curriculum.

Applicants are expected to document their experience with all facets of university teaching, including the supervision of MSc and PhD students.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
