Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Biology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a distinguished professorship position in the field of cell and molecular biology starting in August 2020. The appointment is expected to be at the associate or full professor level. Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on diseases that contribute to health disparities such as neurological disorders or diabetes. The candidate must develop, or have already developed, a nationally and/or internationally recognized research program in his/her area of expertise. The candidate is expected to strengthen current funded research projects and to engage in interdisciplinary, collaborative research in the basic and behavioral sciences. The selected candidate will also engage in the development of academic programs, student advisement, and establishing and maintaining professional relationships. The new faculty member will play a major role in the College of Science and Technology’s newly redesigned Applied Science and Technology (AST) Ph.D. program by providing training in the bioscience concentration. Mentoring of pre-doctoral, masters, and undergraduate students as well as post-doctoral researchers in the Department of Biology and the College of Science and Technology is anticipated.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Science and Technology is research oriented and fosters academic excellence through innovative programs, critical thinking, and intellectual inquiry to prepare students for the 21st century global workforce. The College plays a pivotal role in further advancing the mission of the University by emphasizing preeminence in STEM and promoting curricular advancement, scientific discovery, and technological innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Energy and Environmental Systems, Graphic Design Technology, Mathematics, and Physics.

The Department of Biology has more than four hundred (500) enrolled undergraduate and over twenty-five (25) enrolled master’s students. It also enrolls several PhD students under the newly approved PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department of Biology currently has 20 faculty members who are engaged in research in the fields of cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, neurobiology, and biology education. The Department of Biology’s mission is to educate students to become competent, competitive, and confident leaders who excel in global scientific community. Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and an outstanding research record. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
