The NSF High Field FT-ICR MS User Facility at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory has a postdoctoral position available beginning Spring 2019. The position is for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension upon mutual agreement. We seek highly motivated applicants with experience in MALDI mass spectrometry imaging to assist with implementation of a new imaging platform on the NHMFL 21 T FT-ICR mass spectrometer. Job responsibilities include support of a 2 year project to implement a new MALDI imaging capability that takes full advantage of the ultrahigh mass resolving power and mass accuracy of the NHMFL 21 tesla FT-ICR mass spectrometer, method development for optimum analysis of small molecules, lipids, (tryptic) peptides, and intact proteins from biological tissue sections, and application to biological user samples.
Our facility has partnered with the Maastricht MultiModal Molecular Imaging Institute (M4I; Maastricht, The Netherlands) to implement MALDI mass spectrometry imaging on the NHMFL 21 T FT-ICR. Preliminary results show unrivaled mass resolving power, mass measurement accuracy, dynamic range, and scan speed for ultra-high performance MALDI MS imaging. The successful candidate will travel to the Maastricht to collaborate with M4I staff in sample preparation, data analysis, and MS imaging instrumentation.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field and an established publication record. Experience in mass spectrometry is required. Experience in MALDI MS imaging, biological tissue preparation for MALDI MS imaging, MS imaging instrumentation, FT-ICR MS, and MS imaging data analysis are preferred.
