Laboratory of Turbulence, Sensing and Intelligence System of Mechanical Engineering is a part of NASA MIRO Center for Advanced Measurements in Extreme Environments (CAMEE) in the University of Texas at San Antonio. The Center focuses on increasing the research/education capacity at UTSA in areas related to NASA research priorities. The Center is a collaborative initiative between College of Sciences and College of Engineering at UTSA, with collaboration from University of California, Los Angeles, University of Colorado, Boulder, and NASA Laboratories (JPL, GSFC, and Langley) with interdisciplinary expertise in areas of remote sensing, hypersonic measurements, atmospheric and oceanic measurements and modelling, sea-ice and Turbulence Immediate PostDoctoral positions are available in the NASA-CAMEE Center for highly motivated candidates in the areas of Turbulence simulations. The project deals with LES simulations of buoyant plumes released in the atmosphere. The candidate should have excellent knowledge of programming in F90, C, C++, python. The project involves using Weather Research Forecast model coupled with LES to understand fundamental turbulence processes for buoyant plumes. The applications include fire plume, volcano plumes, chemical plumes, oceanic plumes. This is a very exciting project that builds on fundamental turbulence concepts and with diverse applications. The candidate can participate in US Army, NASA, NSF funded projects. An ideal candidate should have good knowledge of Turbulence, excellent skills in CFD, good math background, analysis skills, have good writing skills.
Responsibilities include: Conducting high calibre research in the area of Turbulence, writing journal publications, participating in proposal building activities with NASA-Center PI’s, mentoring graduate students and few responsibilities involve outreach activities. The candidate should be able to team projects and also be comfortable to work independently.
Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Geosciences, Physics, Applied Math, Aerospace Engineering or related areas is preferred.
