The Department of Biology at Tufts University invites applications to fill a full-time or part-time non-tenure-track faculty position as Professor of the Practice in Biotechnology, Biopharma, or related field. The position begins September 1, 2023 with intent to facilitate student careers in industry. The successful candidate should be an experienced practitioner in the biotech or biopharma fields. The position involves establishing and overseeing an internship or cooperative program to place biology graduate students in industry working on applied projects, and teaching courses on applied and practical skills to biology graduate and advanced undergraduate students interested in the fields of biotechnology or biopharma. In addition, the successful applicant will aid our Master’s admissions process, advise Master’s students on their progress and career goals, and serve on faculty committees for select Ph.D. students.

Applicants should have a Ph.D and continue their practice in research and/or consulting.  The full-time Professor of the Practice would teach 4 course equivalents each year (2 from leading the internship program, and 2 from teaching classes) and spend at least 20% of their time in their practice. To reach graduate students who are working professionals, the Professor of the Practice may be asked to teach either in person or online. A part-time position would be scaled according to the percent of time spent on each activity. Job performance of the successful applicant will be evaluated based on success of the internship program, excellence in teaching, advising, and service, and their continued practice in industry.
