The Biology Department at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Successful candidates are expected to establish a vigorous extramurally funded research program, contribute to the Department’s teaching mission, and serve the University and profession. Teaching load is typically two courses per semester. Candidates should be prepared to contribute to coursework in the Biology core curriculum, upper-division/grad courses, and seminars. Possible areas of teaching and research expertise include organismal biology, cell biology, molecular biology, immunology or virology. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate an interest in multidisciplinary collaborative research and teaching, and whose research complements the molecular, microbiological and ecological strengths of the Department. The successful candidate will start at NMT by August 2020.
The Biology Department at NMT offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology, and participates in the transdisciplinary programs B.S. in Biomedical Sciences, B.S. in Environmental Science, and Ph.D. in Biotechnology. There are currently approximately 80 students with Biology or BMS/Biology as their declared major, 7 Biology M.S. students, and 4 Biotechnology Ph.D. students.
