JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Physics Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the Fall of 2025. We are seeking candidates within the broad areas of computational or theoretical physics that would complement our department. Responsibilities for this position include establishing an active externally funded research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate projects, and serving WPI and its connected communities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful applicant is expected to develop a robust, externally funded research program while contributing to the educational and research missions of the Physics Department and WPI that include project-based learning, a focus on undergraduate research, and active K-12 outreach. The candidate's research should complement current research strengths and facilities at WPI and support the Physics and Applied Physics PhD programs. Programs and research interests of current faculty include quantum sensing, quantum information science, ultrafast optical and THz spectroscopy, nuclear and plasma science, soft matter and biophysics, photonic integrated circuits, physics education research, nanoscience, astrophysics, and data science/ML/AI. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field, a strong scholarship record, and a strong potential for excellence in teaching.
