Required Qualification: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Experience with molecular biology and cell culture techniques. Experience with handling mice or rats.

Preferred Qualification:
Experience in kidney biology/disease or metabolism or transcription factor biology. Experience in maintaining a mouse colony and undertaking procedures. Experience in manuscript preparation. Experience in use of scientific data analysis software.

Job Description:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the lab of Dr Sian Piret in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension within the Department of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Our lab is focused on understanding mechanisms of acute kidney injury (AKI) and transition to chronic kidney disease (CKD). Specifically, we are studying transcriptional control of kidney proximal tubular cell metabolism, how metabolism is altered in AKI/CKD, and the cellular consequences for injury and repair. We use in vitro and in vivo models, including live cell metabolic assays and transgenic models. The successful applicant will assist the Principal Investigator in the experiments, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

The successful applicant will have excellent technical skills and high attention to detail. They will have strong presentation skills, and have an ability to work independently, including in problem solving, as well as within a team.

Specific Duties:

Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, cellular metabolism, and transcription factor biology.

Collect and analyze data, including literature searches and utilize specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.

Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.

Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance, and ordering of supplies, as needed.

Other duties as assigned which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) to be offered for this position is noted below, it represents SBU's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.



Salary: $50,000-$65,000
