The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Texas (UNT) is seeking applications and nominations for the UNT Welch Chair in Chemistry, an endowed position at the rank of Professor, to start in the 2020-2021 academic year. The successful candidate will maintain an internationally recognized research program in any area of experimental, theoretical, or computational chemistry, engage in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and participate in service to the Department and UNT. The candidate is expected to play a key leadership role in the Department’s efforts to strengthen its research infrastructure, increase the size of its faculty, and reinforce UNT’s status as a Carnegie R1 institution.

The Denton community combines close proximity to one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country with an intimate and culturally vibrant college town atmosphere. The UNT Chemistry Department has 21 faculty members, about 100 graduate students, and about 250 undergraduate majors, and is entering a growth phase with plans to hire up to 10 tenure-track faculty members over the next five years. Recognized research strengths include computational chemistry, photochemistry, and materials chemistry, as well as a growing interdisciplinary emphasis on chemical biology.
