The Department of Chemistry at the University at Buffalo seeks exceptional candidates to fill a faculty position in synthetic chemistry for sustainability at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record, and intriguing plans, involving fundamental research in harnessing the power of synthetic chemistry to address global challenges in sustainability, particularly as it relates to materials, food, energy, water, or health. The department seeks a faculty member who will foster interdisciplinary research and instruction, who will complement existing strengths in molecular and materials synthesis, environmental chemistry, and chemical biology, and who is committed to teaching a diverse student body at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to serving the department and university. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing the growing focus on sustainability at the University at Buffalo.

The Department of Chemistry at the University at Buffalo is a vibrant community with a long tradition and strong commitment to excellence in research, service, and teaching. The Department typically ranks among the top 25 institutions in the U.S. in granting bachelor’s degrees in chemistry. Our graduate and undergraduate programs have grown dramatically over the past decade, which has enabled us to enhance our research profile and the breadth and depth of our instructional offerings. Research interests within the Department span the traditional disciplines of chemistry – analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical – as well as the ever-expanding interfaces of chemistry with biology, materials science, engineering, medicine, and physics. We benefit greatly from collaborative affiliations with researchers within the College of Arts and Sciences; the Schools of Engineering, Dental Medicine, Medicine, and Pharmacy; the Roswell Park Cancer Institute; the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute; the Centers of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Materials Informatics; the RENEW Institute; and the Center for Computational Research. The emergence of these research centers and institutes has led to a tremendous growth of interdisciplinary research and collaboration among members of our Department.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in chemistry or related area. Successful applicants will have a track record of independent career success in research, teaching, and service. Effective communication skills.
