Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:

Utah Valley University is searching for a Greenhouse Director in the Biology Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and maintaining the greenhouse and related facilities and equipment for horticulture and botany courses/research. Responsibilities will include ordering, procuring, and preparing supplies, materials, and solutions for horticulture courses, identifying, selecting, and making hiring recommendations for adjunct laboratory instructors and student assistants, and training and supervising greenhouse student personnel. The position will also have responsibility for assisting with the native garden, research field plots, and interiorscape of the College of Science buildings. There may also be the potential to teach one course a semester, such as BOT 1800 (Introduction to Horticulture) if desired.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelors degree in Botany, Horticulture, or a related field with an additional two years of relevant experience (combination of education and experience totaling six years); OR, graduation from an accredited institution with a Masters degree in an area of Botany, Horticulture, or related field.

Must have or obtain a current Pesticide Applicators License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of botanical/horticultural protocols, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of safety standards for horticulture work and the use of laboratory equipment, facilities, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of safe and appropriate application of pesticides in the greenhouse, native garden, and research field plots.
  • Knowledge of receiving and storage procedures for horticulture materials and supplies.
  • Skill in providing guidance and instruction in horticulture protocols, the safe use of horticulture equipment, and safe conduct of horticulture studies for undergraduate students.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate information in a manner easily understood by undergraduate students.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or hazard control standards.


Preferred Qualifications:

M.Sc.in Horticulture, Botany, or closely related field required and experience in greenhouse management.

Physical Requirements:

Physical ability to perform manual work including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and related activities. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Pay Range: $44,632.00 - $59,583.00
