The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Tufts University (Medford, MA, USA; https://as.tufts.edu/physics) invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-stream Faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the field of theoretical Quantum Computing/Quantum Information. The successful candidate will join the department with a target start date of September 1, 2026. We encourage candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, mentoring, and community development to apply. The Tufts Physics and Astronomy Department consists of seventeen tenured or tenure-track faculty and has strong research programs in high energy physics, condensed matter physics, cosmology, astrophysics, and physics education research. Possible subfields include analog and digital quantum simulation, quantum optimization, quantum thermodynamics, quantum sensing, the physics of quantum devices, open quantum systems, quantum error correction and quantum algorithms. The successful candidate will join a thriving quantum ecosystem at Tufts with abundant opportunities to collaborate with other quantum researchers in mathematics, chemistry, computer science and electrical and computer engineering.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, the candidate must have a Ph.D. in physics with a demonstrated research profile in quantum computing or quantum information. We expect the candidate to generate research grants after arrival at Tufts. The successful candidate will supervise graduate-student thesis research for the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees, and undergraduate senior honors thesis projects. The Department of Physics & Astronomy places a strong value in educational excellence, so candidates should show promise in teaching undergraduate and graduate physics courses and a commitment to professional development as a teacher. For an appointment at the tenured level, prior experience in teaching is essential, and evidence of innovation in teaching is welcomed.
