This position is funded by a Ministry of Education AcRF Tier 2 grant of Li Yi. The goal of the project is to develop new theory and algorithms for massive datasets, with a particular focus on online algorithms related to numerical linear algebra.
The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Pursue cutting-edge research in algorithms for massive datasets, such as dimension reduction techniques, streaming algorithms, and online algorithms
-
Writing or contributing to publications, and attending conferences and workshops, for disseminating research findings. Travel support is possible.
Job Requirements:
-
Ph.D. in theoretical computer science, mathematics, or a relevant area
-
Good background of probability in theoretical computer science
-
Research experience, as evidenced by a history of relevant publications, is expected. Publications in top venues are highly desired.
-
Research experience in problems related to (1) metric embeddings, (2) non-asymptotic analysis of random matrices or (3) big data algorithms (such as sublinear-time algorithms, streaming algorithms and randomized numerical linear algebra algorithms) would be an advantage, but also welcome applicants with different backgrounds who are keen to apply their knowledge to new problems
-
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
