Plant Growth Facilities - Greenhouses Superintendent

Position Summary: The UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences seeks an experienced individual to oversee the operation and management of their Plant Growth Facilities. This includes approximately 80,000 sq ft of greenhouse space, 30,000 sq ft of headhouse space and 2000 sq ft of support unit buildings. New construction began in August of 2022 to add approximately 8,000 sq ft of new greenhouse and support spaces. Additionally, there are 31 growth chambers including reach-in and walk-in types. These plant growth facilities are among the most important and widely used research facilities in the college, supporting projects across a range of disciplines and departments.
The primary responsibilities of the position include the management and operation of the plant growth facilities supporting the research, teaching and extension missions of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in Athens, GA. This includes oversight and participation in the maintenance and operation of facilities and equipment, budget development, and personnel management. Responsibilities also include working with the faculty advisory committee to develop, execute and enforce policies for facility use and services and to develop and enhance public relations. This position and will report to the CAES Assistant Dean for Research.
Required Qualifications: Applicant must have a B.S. degree in horticulture, agronomy or a related field. Experience in the management, operation, maintenance and repair of greenhouse and growth chamber facilities. Experience with cultural, biological, and chemical control of greenhouse pests. Experience with operating automated environmental control systems. In addition, candidates must currently hold or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Georgia private or commercial Pesticide Applicator License and will be required to lawfully operate a motor vehicle on public roadways.
Preferred Qualifications: M.S. degree pertaining to horticulture, agronomy or a related field. Demonstrated experience working in a research greenhouse setting. Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks. Demonstrated supervisory and management experience, and excellent communication and team building skills.
