The Department of Plant Biology at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applications for two, full-time (9-month), non-tenure track Lecturer positions starting August 2024. We are looking for faculty members with demonstrated expertise in a plant-related discipline and potential for outstanding and innovative teaching, especially for first-year students. Teaching expectations for each lecturer are 4-6 courses per year; these will likely include introductory-level courses in botany and general biology for life science majors and non-majors. We encourage creativity in our instructional faculty and the potential exists to design new courses. Responsibilities also include undergraduate advising and service at the department and college level.

UVM is an educationally purposeful community seeking to prepare students to be accountable leaders in a diverse and changing world. We seek a new faculty member who can advance the values of Our Common Ground (i.e., openness, respect, responsibility, integrity, innovation, and justice) through their teaching, mentoring, and service. The position is within UVM’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and successful applicants will help us achieve the college’s mission to create critical thinkers and problem solvers to build resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and healthy communities and environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in the life sciences, related to plant biology. Applicants should have a demonstrated potential for excellent teaching and mentoring, strong scientific skills, and a dedication to innovative teaching and professional development. Successful applicants will have a sustained commitment to equity and inclusion in their professional endeavors.
