Description

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is seeking candidates for The Clean Energy Innovator Fellowship program who have a background and interest in the clean energy transition.  Selected fellows will participate in projects at one of the following host institutions, on site, for up to two years.

Available Host Institutions

In the application, you will provide up to 3 of your most preferred host institutions from the list below.  You must be willing to relocate to the host facility's area, if selected:

  1. Virginia Commerce Commission - https://www.commerce.virginia.gov/  (Richmond, VA)
  2. Arkansas Public Service Commission - http://arkansas.gov/psc/  (Little Rock, AR)
  3. Vermont Public Utilities Commission - https://puc.vermont.gov/  (Montpelier, VT)
  4. New Hampshire Electric Cooperative - https://www.nhec.com/  (Plymouth, NH)
  5. Kentucky Public Service Commission - https://psc.ky.gov/  (Frankfurt, KY)
  6. Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities - https://www.mass.gov/orgs/department-of-public-utilitites/  (Boston, MA)

Fellowship Details

Fellows receive a stipend, health insurance, and a generous allowance for education and professional development.  The fellowship appointment is for one-year, renewable for a second year, with opportunities for peer-to-peer learning provided for each cohort.  Stipends are determined by their degree level and years of relevant professional experience and begin at $40k for a Bachelor’s degree, at $55k for a Master’s degree, and at $70k for a Doctoral degree. Reimbursement of relocation expenses may also be provided, if applicable.

Nature of Fellowship Appointment

The Clean Energy Innovator Fellowship program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through its Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). The program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). During the appointment, the fellow will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, DOE, the host institution, or any other office or agency.  Instead, the fellow will be considered a participant and will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

The fellowship is open to recent Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral graduates in fields relevant to electricity generation, transmission, or distribution. Fellowship candidates must have an interest in the application of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable transportation technologies and policies.  If more than five years since receipt of degree, the applicant must have an academic background and experience in a relevant field and must be seeking to gain new knowledge/experience in order to expand career opportunities or to advance professionally.

While there is no deadline to apply, applicants are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible.  Ideally placements will be made prior to January 2023.  Only completed applications will be reviewed.
