Position purpose
A postdoctoral research fellow is expected to carry out independent and/or team research within the field in which they are appointed and to carry out activities to develop their research expertise relevant to the particular field of research.
This position will focus on leading research in the domain of Computer Vision within a multidisciplinary team of impact-focused researchers working at the intersection of communities, technology, and social innovation. Application domains primarily include Civic Tech and Digital Health & Wellbeing, through the application of expertise in Interaction Design, Participatory Media, Social Computing, and Collaborative Systems Engineering. The appointed postdoc will be working in collaboration with members of the Action Labs (including Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and UK) to pursue innovation and engage in mutual learning – producing knowledge and world-class publications.
Reporting Line: The position reports to Director of Action Lab, Malaysia
Key responsibilities

The conduct of leading research and the production of top-ranked conference or Q1 journal papers and publications from that research

Involvement in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences or seminars in the field of expertise and showcases/exhibitions corresponding to the research

Coordination and limited administrative functions primarily connected with the corresponding area of research and the resources within Action Lab: Malaysia.

Development of a limited amount of research-related material for engagement or other purposes with appropriate guidance from other staff

Occasional contributions to teaching in relation to their research project(s)

Attendance at meetings associated with research or the work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected and/or at departmental, school and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees

Advice within the field of research to postgraduate students.

Identify funding opportunities and assist in the funding application process.
Key selection criteria
Education/Qualifications
-
A doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent qualification
-
Demonstrated experience in Computer Vision.
-
The ability to work both independently in a research environment and as part of an interdisciplinary research team
-
The ability to solve complex problems by using discretion, innovation and the exercise diagnostic skills and/or expertise
-
High-level organizational skills, with demonstrated capacity to establish and achieve goals.

Excellent written and oral communication skills
-
A demonstrated capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in the workplace.
