The Department of Biology at Tufts University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a non-major plant biology course (Bio 10B - “Plants and Humanity” -or related title) during Tufts’ Summer School session B (July 1- August 8, 2025). The course should treat elements of plant architecture, growth, function, diversity, and human and environmental relevance of plants. Topics in the past have included carnivorous plants, epiphytes, and mangroves, soils and mineral nutrition, and the expanding importance of groups ranging from seaweeds to climate-dodging millet. Enrollment is about 20. The course carries Natural Sciences Distribution credit, and highlights resilience and stability driven by biodiversity.

Qualifications

The preferred candidate should have attained an advanced degree in an area related to the biology and human relevance of plants and related groups such as algae and fungi. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching university students at major or pre-major level. We require experience or invested interest in developing inclusive classroom spaces through equitable mentoring and innovative evidence-based pedagogy that promotes success and career enhancement of underrepresented students in STEM.
