The Thematic FAPESP Project offers a postdoctoral fellowship to investigate the emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC) and the formation of aerosol particles by the oxidation of these biogenic compounds. In addition, the project will explore the composition and interactions of bioaerosols in the Amazonian atmosphere and their influence on biogeochemical cycles and regional climate change.

This project aims to investigate BVOC fluxes and their role in aerosol formation, using measurements at the ATTO forest site in addition to other regions of the Amazon. The results are expected to elucidate crucial processes that link BVOC emissions, particle formation, and the impact on cloud formation, contributing to understanding regional and global climate. This project intends to increase the representativeness of local measures on the regional scale, as well as assess the relative importance of different processes in the interaction of forest-atmosphere clouds.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality, with a fellowship granted by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$12.000,00 monthly plus a Technical Reserve equivalent to 10% of the grant's annual value to cover unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity.

The vacancy is to work at the Institute of Physics at the University of São Paulo under the supervision of Prof. Paulo Artaxo. The candidate must have experience with Python or R programming and data analysis. Knowledge of VOC mass spectrometry using Proton Transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry (PTR-MS) or Aerosol Mass Spectrometry (AMS) is desirable.

The candidate must have completed their PhD less than seven years ago. Training or experience in meteorology, geoscience, environmental sciences, chemistry, or ecology is desirable. Candidates should e-mail an up-to-date CV, a copy of their PhD diploma, and a letter of motivation describing previous experience and research interests to artaxo@if.usp.br. We are accepting applications till April 20, 2025.
