    We are seeking an exceptional leader for our School of Science. The Dean of Science is a senior strategic and academic leader of the School, responsible for shaping its intellectual, professional and operational culture and direction and for the effective creation and stewardship of its resources.

    There is specific responsibility to lead programme developments that will increase student numbers, advance the quality of teaching and research in the School, and increase the visibility, engagement and impact of the School with local stakeholders. The School of Science, at our Hamilton and Tauranga campuses, offers a range of qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across academic programmes including: Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Ecology and Biodiversity, Environmental Sciences, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. Within the School there are approximately 700 students, around 80 academic staff and 45 professional and general staff. The School is situated in the Division of Health, Engineering, Computing, and Science, and the appointee will be an important member of the Division's executive leadership group, reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor. The position is full-time and it is expected that approximately half of the time is assigned to teaching and research activities. To succeed in this role you must be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence with exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; have distinguished research and scholarly credentials appropriate to the role; enjoy strategic engagement; and show evidence of success in a senior academic leadership/management role.

    The appointment will be for a fixed term of three years with the possibility of extension for a further two years.
