    Departmental Overview

    The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) is a cooperative effort between the state of California, private industry, venture capital, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. In order to stimulate discovery at the intersection of the physical and biological sciences, QB3 promotes multidisciplinary research at world-class facilities, creates innovative educational programs, and fosters industry partnerships. The Institute's more than 180 researchers decipher the complex systems involved in living systems and discover ground-breaking applications for that basic knowledge in the areas of health, energy, and the environment.

    Responsibilities
    [list]
    [*] Quantitate/Evaluate DNA library samples for Illumina NGS by fluorimetry, Agilent Bioanalyzer, qPCR (GSL and FGL).
    [*] Take the primary lead in scheduling Illumina sequencing runs and performing all technical task to execution with limited to no supervision (GSL).
    [*] Generate genomic DNA and RNA NGS libraries manually and using robotics (FGL).
    [*] Perform unsupervised operation and maintenance of NGS instruments (GSL).
    [*] Assist with generating and troubleshooting Illumina library preparation experiments (FGL).
    [*] Perform miscellaneous tasks required to operate the research core facility (maintaining equipment, etc) - (FGL/GSL).
    [*] Provide assistance to customers, log in samples, and monitor workflow.
    [*] Troubleshoot advanced issues with the NGS pipeline.
    [*] Train newly hired and future hire SRAs and student workers.
    [*] Ensure Lab efficiency by coordinating tasks with SRA staff and students.[/list]

    Required Qualifications
    [list]
    [*] Knowledge of industry-standard record keeping.
    [*] Good communication skills, team-oriented.
    [*] Ability to pay close attention to detail
    [*] Knowledge of campus and EH&S safety policies or ability to quickly learn. [/list]

    Education/Training:
    [list]
    [*] B.S. degree in the biological sciences with demonstrated success in general molecular biological techniques and experience Next Generation DNA Sequencing (NGS) technology and/or equivalent experience/training.
    [*] Work experience in a wet lab with use of single and multichannel pipets.
    [*] A minimum of 1 year lab experience preparing NGS genomic DNA libraries for Illumina platforms.[/list]

    Preferred Qualifications
    [list]
    [*] Experience working in research laboratories.
    [*] Experience in preparation of short read cDNA/genomic DNA libraries, fluorescent quantitation of DNA samples, Agilent bioanaylzer analysis of DNA and RNA samples; operation and maintenance of the Illumina HiSeq NGS instruments; standard and real time (qPCR) PCR.
    [*] Familiarity with other general molecular biology methods, such as ligation, gene cloning, gel electrophoresis of nucleic acids and troubleshooting of NGS library preparation would be advantageous.[/list]

    Salary & Benefits

    This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $51,467.44 - $69,274.52, Steps 1.0 - 16.0.
