  • Postdoctoral Researcher of Ecology (Plant Herbivore)

    A full-time postdoctoral researcher to participate in a USDA funded project that focuses on the role of plant chemistry in mediating plant-herbivore, plant-soil microbe, and above- and belowground interactions. The goal is to understand whether these interactions are playing a role in the large-scale dieback of a dominant coastal marsh plant (Phragmites australis) in the Mississippi River Delta. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to design and conduct experiments, analyze data and write manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

    Duties:
    70% Design and conduct experiments, to understand whether these interactions are playing a role in the large-scale dieback of a dominant coastal marsh plant (Phragmites australis) in the Mississippi River Delta.
    20% Write manuscripts and give presentations on the research.
    10% Laboratory upkeep and maintenance; organize and quality-control data. Work with undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    PhD in Entomology, Botany, Ecology or related field.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    PhD in Entomology, Botany, Ecology or related field. With specific experience in conducting research on plant-herbivore or plant-soil microbe interactions. Strong statistical skills using SAS or R; A strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals related to plant, plant-herbivore interactions or plant-microbe interactions.

    Special or Physical Qualifications:
    Must be willing and capable of working in coastal marsh habitats and in hot and humid weather.
