    JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
    The newly opened Vieux lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks a Lab Technician with an interest in mechanisms of RNA processing, focusing on RNA tailing. We use classical genetics and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in C. elegans, along with next-generation sequencing, cell biology, and biochemical techniques to 1) understand how tail length and composition modulate aspects of RNA biology; and 2) elucidate regulatory mechanisms and physiological consequences of tailing in the context of oogenesis and early embryogenesis.     JOB DESCRIPTION

    The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to design, execute, and analyze experiments. Applicants must have completed a Bachelors in natural sciences, engineering, or related fields. Expertise in molecular and cell biology, C. elegans husbandry, as well as verbal and written communication skills are required. Previous undergraduate research experience and/or 1+ year of work experience is also preferred. Other desirable aptitudes include:



    • Adept sterile technique.

    • Genotyping experience.

    • Proficiency in data analysis and relevant software tools.

    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a research team.

    • Lab managerial skills



    Responsibilities:



    • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies.

    • Assist in sample preparation, data collection, and analytical and quantitative imaging.

    • Assist in a genetic screen of terminal nucleotidyl transferases and exonucleases expression and function in C. elegans.

    • Keep accurate and complete records of all scientific experiments according to established procedures and ensure that these records and raw data are properly retained.

    • Collaborate with other team members to transmit knowledge and skill, generate and test hypotheses, interpret results, and present findings.

    • Publish research findings and in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.



    Requirements:



    • Minimum 4 Year / B.S. in Biology or a related field

    • 0 to 2 years Experience in Molecular biology or general biology lab experience

    • A minimum two-year commitment with the possibility of long-term employment.
