    The Department of Mathematics at the University of Tulsa is seeking a highly qualified individual eligible to be hired (with tenure) at the rank of Professor and serve as the Department Chair for Mathematics. The Mathematics Department is housed in the newly formed College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS). With supported goals to grow the graduate enrollment and reinstate the Math PhD program, the Mathematics Chair will lead the department through significant transformation.


    The department seeks an energetic leader who will collaborate with the rest of the faculty to develop a vision that aligns with the university’s strategic plan. Aiming to become a research-intensive R1 institution and a top ranked school, the University of Tulsa (TU) is investing and expanding in several strategic research areas.  To support this growth initiative, the ECS College intends to significantly increase its faculty in the next 5 years and seeks inspired, driven academics to join it in this mission.


    The Mathematics Department prioritizes excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. The department has a reputation for collaborative research in various areas of mathematics including work in partial differential equations, bioinformatics, computational mathematics, and statistics.  The department currently consists of 6 tenured and 5 teaching faculty. Undergraduate programs include BA and BS in Mathematics, and BS in Applied Mathematics. The MS program in Applied Mathematics is available both in the traditional two-year track and as an accelerated option. Highlights of community engagement include facilitating math circles, math competitions, and summer camps for area students and teachers.     Characteristic Duties:


    - Teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.


    - Involvement in active research that complements and enhances existing research areas, such as applied and numerical analysis and interdisciplinary fields.


    - Overseeing and managing departmental faculty and staff, including performance reviews, contract renewals, and professional development.


    - Leading efforts to recruit and retain talented faculty, encouraging diversity and inclusivity within the department.


    - Oversight of the departmental budget.


    - Oversight of annual program assessment, program review, and continuous improvement processes.


    - Monitoring teaching loads to ensure a balanced workload for faculty.


    - Providing leadership for all aspects of the department.


    - Balancing the needs of the department and the broader interests of the college through effective communication and collaboration.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    - A PhD in Mathematics with an established career at the rank of Associate Professor or full Professor.


    - Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship, and distinction in professional achievements.


    - Successful history of administrative service and leadership, and an ability to develop and implement a departmental strategic vision that aligns with the university’s stated goal of moving from R2 to R1 status, and to promote growth and excellence in research, teaching, and community engagement.


    - Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in order to provide open exchange of information and leadership within the department and across the university.


    - Ability to maintain and foster the existing departmental culture of collegiality and serving as a good colleague and mentor to faculty, staff, and students.


    - Willingness to share the department’s commitment to the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of faculty and students from underrepresented and marginalized groups.


    The University of Tulsa is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a city with a population of over 1,000,000 in the metro area.
