    The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (non-tenure track) 9- month faculty position in Geography, beginning fall semester 2025. We seek an enthusiastic scholar in Human Geography with an open specialization that is innovative in teaching and connecting with both undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to active learning and comprehensive teaching methods, experience with students from all backgrounds and a track record of fostering  a welcoming classroom environment, strong capabilities in communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. The application of GIS and other technologies and methods from a critical human geography perspective desired but not required.

     

    The position is a renewable yearly appointment subject to annual review based on performance, need for services and available funding. A promotion to senior lecturer is possible after five years of exemplary service. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to active learning.. Candidates that have at least 5 years of teaching experience in higher education, have evidence of implementing active learning in the classroom, and have a proven record of service within a department may be eligible for consideration of the rank of Senior Lecturer upon hire with approval of the University.

    The successful candidate will contribute to high-enrollment undergraduate courses in Human Geography, and courses in their area of specialization as needed. Specifically, the candidate will teach large sections of GEOG 1010 Global Geography, an important core social science course at Auburn University.  In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach or develop classes in their area of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) Teach three undergraduate courses in Human Geography or related areas each semester; 2) Develop and implement innovative and interactive teaching strategies; 3) Engage in curriculum development and contribute to program improvements; 4) Foster a welcoming learning environment that supports our land-grant mission 5) Participate in departmental meetings and university service activities as needed.

    Applications must include: 1) the applicant’s curriculum vitae, 2) copies of transcripts, 3) names and contact information of three professional references, 4) a 2-page cover letter, and 5) a 2-page statement of teaching philosophy that reflects the candidate’s approach to education and outlines how the candidate implements these in the classroom.
