    Overview


    The Monaco Lab is exploring evolutionary conservation of noncoding gene RN7SL and its ability to splice between different copies on the same transcript to form large ‘Jumbo’ circRNAs encompassing protein coding genes involved in cellular stress, growth and development.



    What You'll Do


    This is a limited-term position that may not exceed 3 years. 


    Under close supervision of the Principal Investigator,  the Research Technician conducts a variety of routine molecular biology experiments following established procedures and protocols, which may include performing RNA extraction, RT-PCR, nucleic acid assays, tissue culture, electrophoresis, and other laboratory techniques.  May also record test results, analyze data using basic statistics, maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, and monitor animal colonies. 


    Essential Functions: 



    • Conducts routine molecular biology experiments following appropriate protocols and procedures to achieve results

    • Performs techniques such as tissue culture, PCR, immunohistochemistry, electrophoresis, protein purification and others

    • Records results and maintains accurate records of experiments

    • Performs limited data interpretation and assists with basic statistics and analysis

    • Maintains laboratory equipment and orders/keeps inventory of supplies

    • Prepares stock solutions, reagents and other media

    • Monitors animal colonies and performs husbandry, collects samples and maintains census records



    What We're Looking For


    Basic Requirements:



    • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by completing a Bachelor’s degree in Science with up to one year of laboratory experience. 


    Preferred Qualifications: 



    • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and procedures. Experience in cell culture, immunofluorescence, RNA fluorescence in-situ hybridization and cytological staining techniques would be preferred. 


    Working Conditions: 



    • May work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials, human/animal tissue and fluids, radiation. 



    Pay Range

    Minimum $20.10, Midpoint $23.90, Maximum $27.70
     
    Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
