    Job Description


    The Department of Physics at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate specialized in theoretical nuclear/particle physics, to begin June 10, 2025 and will be a 12-month appointment. This Post-Doctoral Research Associate will conduct research performed jointly at ODU and Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility under the supervision of Dr. Arkaitz Rodas Bilbao. The position is a two-year, restricted appointment, subject to funding availability and satisfactory progress.

    Job Responsibilities:


    • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research as agreed upon with the PI.

    • Participate in the preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication as co-author or sole author.

    • Engaging in self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, and attending seminars as directed by the faculty member or department head.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications


    Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Theoretical Nuclear or Particle Physics by no later than July 25, 2025.

    Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities



    1. At least one (1) successful research project in the area of hadron spectroscopy or closely related field.

    2. Active knowledge of quantum field theory.

    3. Knowledge of Mathematica or similar software.

    4. Coding skills in either Python, C, C++ or Fortran.
