  • Post Doc fellowship: Secondary Organic Aerosols in Amazonia
    Physics Institute
    University of Sao Paulo

The FAPESP Thematic Project 2023/04358-9 offers a postdoctoral position focused on investigating the mechanisms of secondary aerosol formation in the Amazon, with special emphasis on state-of-the-art measurements of chemical composition and nanoparticle size distributions. The position is open to Brazilian and foreign researchers. The ideal candidate will have a PhD, completed within the last seven years, in physics, atmospheric science, chemistry, environmental science, meteorology, or a related field. The candidate should demonstrate proven experience with aerosol measurement instrumentation, preferably including aerosol mass spectrometers such as ACSM or AMS, and aerosol particle size distribution analysers such as SMPS, as well as experience with data analysis and the interpretation of particle size distributions and chemical composition. Proficiency in scientific programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or R is required. Experience with long-term atmospheric datasets, multivariate statistics such as Positive Matrix Factorization, and participation in field campaigns in remote environments is highly desirable. The candidate should also have an interest in working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, international research environment.

The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship of R$12.000 per month, along with a technical reserve equivalent to 10% of the annual grant value for research-related expenses. The position is based at the Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo (São Paulo, Brazil), under the supervision of Prof. Paulo Artaxo, with opportunities for collaboration with national and international partners. Applicants should submit a current CV, a copy of the PhD diploma, and a motivation letter detailing their relevant experience and research interests to artaxo@if.usp.br. The application deadline is July 15, 2025.
