    The incumbent monitors progress of research projects and coordinates information between department sections. He/she assists with and conducts laboratory experiments on research projects within well-defined guidelines.

    • Knowledge of research methodologies, experimental design, and statistical analysis

    • Ability to follow standard protocols or determine protocols to be used, based on the guidelines of the principal investigator

    • Ability to think critically 


     

    Essential Job Functions



    • Develops protocols and guidelines for the application of portable diagnosis tools for onsite pest identification

    • Conducts laboratory and applied research in collaboration with Extension that addresses state and local needs

    • Maintains the materials generated by the project

    • Assists with the collection of data, evaluation, and reports

    • Assists with grant writing, and budgeting, and provides input in the development of educational programs

    • Prepares extension outreach materials like fact sheets, trifolds, brochures, etc. for disseminating information to the limited resources farmers

    • Mentors graduate/undergraduate students, lab technicians, and student workers

    • Visits and travels to state events, as needed 


     
     

    Minimum Education
    Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology, or a closely related field. Priority given to MS degree holders with laboratory experience on molecular tools
    Minimum Experience
    Hands-on experience in basic molecular techniques and fundamentals of plant pathology
